HOME OF CRITICALLY ACCLAIMED JUDY GARLAND IMPERSONATOR PETER MAC
Q GUIDE TO THE GOLDEN GIRLS &
What happened to the GOLDEN GIRLS: LIVE all-male stage version?
Author Jim Colucci follows up his "Will & Grace" book and gloriously reports on what many people consider the best TV show of the 1980s.... and perhaps of all time. The Golden Girls. This paean to the silver haired denizens of Miami is told through lavender glasses and I don't plan on leaving the house without them on ever again!
Jim covers why we are infatuated with this show. So much so that four gay guys got together in 2003 and did it for a charity run in the West Village called "The Golden Girls: LIVE!". Yes Peter and I were two of those guys...and we are interviewed for the book...a 4 page sit down interview in fact.... However, we are not biased and never have been about our deep affection for these four women. As such we have been wary the many other times that people have approached about being involved in any kind of GG project.
In Jim's delightful tome he has this to say about TGGL:
"In 2003. theater duo and real-life couple Peter Mac and John Schaefer created a stage show that honored the series (Golden Girls) more directly. With two gay male friends joining them as Rose and Blanche, Peter and John appeared as Sophia and Dorothy in Golden Girls...Live, their all-male drag version of the sitcom that sold out its limited four show run and eventually played sixty performances at cabaret room Rose's Turn in New York's West Village."
Further he says:
"Due to rights issues with the source material, their larger plans- including a new Dorothy/Sophia musical entitled "Shady Pines, Ma! - never materialized. But for the Golden summer of 2003, gays and their fellow New Yorkers could enjoy a 3D slice of their favorite cheesecake from Miami."
At the time of this writing Amazon was almost out of stock...so hurry!
"THE GOLDEN GIRLS: LIVE" an ALL MALE Loving Tribute to everyone's favorite sitcom.
